I’ve been on Twitter for a few months now but could only get a couple hundred followers. I knew other people were getting hundreds, even thousands of followers but how the heck were they doing it? I tried everything from offering free items to posting Craigs and classifieds to try to entice people to follow me on twitter. Nothing was working, yeah a follower or two here and there but nothing of real consequence.

Recently, Twitter launched a new update called lists. Using your Twitter settings you are able to create useful lists that you feel may help others. If you know where to look you can find lists of people that will re-follow you.

Mine does. In fact I tested this with two different accounts and it works. I did it with mine then I had another person independently test it. It worked just as good and all advertising became much more effective. Do you think it is better to advertise to a few or to the masses?

I’m going to first tell you how to get hundreds of Twitter followers in hours then I am going to provide you with a few of my favorite tricks lists to get you started including how to shorten your links and maybe make a little cash while your doing it.

Let’s jump right in. You don’t need a website to make money. First let’s start with link shortening. Link shortening is extremely important in the world of Twitter. Since you can only use 140 characters including spaces and punctuation it is a very handy tool to be able to shorten your long links. As we all know some links can get awfully long. For example; I did a search on KDE Image Editing software on Google. I wanted to share that link with others so I went to my address or location bar and copied the url displayed there: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=kde+image+editing&sourceid=navclient-ff&rlz=1B6_____enUS353US353&ie=UTF-8. There are a multitude of link shortening services out there but I have only found one that allows me to to take a link from the one above and turn it into this: http://eCa.sh/i3DB plus have a shot at making some real cash in the process.

You can go ahead and try them out, they go to exactly the same place but you will notice one difference. The shortened link adds a small and attractive bar to the top of the page promoting you and some very good and useful products. It has a gateway for others to sign up for the same free service under you and a scrolling, one line list displaying some of the most sought after products and fastest growing two tier affiliate programs.

So you may not be interested in making money with your tweets. That’s cool. Let me get on to how you can increase your Twitter followers by hundreds in hours. As I said above, Twitter started a great addition called lists. @anthonystevens4 is using these lists to the best advatnge by sharing with us the top 500 refollowers on Twitter. Here is a direct link to the list: http://twitter.com/anthonystevens4/top-500-follow-all-back. Simply follow that link and follow everyone on the list. So far, within 24 hours of doing this, I have 395 new followers and I still have new followers coming in every few minutes it seems. On a newer account I have racked up over 200 new followers and over 130 on the newest account, started just hours ago as of the writing of this post.

So it is this easy to make a little extra money. Sign up for the Low Stress Affiliate Program. Promote their highly marketable products with pre-made tweets, banners, landing pages and professionally written emails to make excellent commissions. Tweet interesting tweets and use the eCa.sh link shortening service. I personally find breaking news and interesting articles from all over the world, summarize the article within the alloted amount of characters (140). I use eCa.sh to shorten the url that is in the address bar of my browser. For example if you read a really interesting Wikipedia article and want to share it with Twitter you can easily eCa.sh the page you want to share, copy the eCa.sh and possibly monetize that tweet.

Here is a little more advanced way of accomplishing the same goal but in the process you are able to tweet to several accounts at the same time plus Facebook and MySpace. I also use a couple of combinations of tools such as the Firefox Hootlet provided by HootSuite and the Bookmarklet provided by eCa.sh and Tweetdeck if i want to also update my status on MySpace. Hootsuite is a great online Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn interface. Tweetdeck is a Abobe Air application that you download to your computer. Both are excellent interfaces with their own sets of unique tools.

If I find a interesting page that I think others would be interested in I simply press the Hootlet button in my bookmarks toolbar and let the Hootlet summarize the page for me, delete the default link in the Hootlet, click the eCa.sh this page bookmarklet, copy the url then paste that into the Hootlet where you initially deleted the default link. This will add your eCa.sh bar to the top of that page when you tweet it. So if you eCa.sh every tweet you are bound to make a few bucks.

This may not be the clearest tutorial but the information is there. I will be going back through and adding some non-essential steps and tips that make the whole process a lot faster and user friendly. I obviously do not guarantee that you will have any results with this information. I simply think this is a good way to possibly profit from your tweets and promote without a website. Use it as you may.
