The Effects of Humates on Remediation of Hydrocarbon and Salt Contaminated Soils

I was looking around the Internet one day, as I often do, and stumbled across a report about a very inexpensive but valuable product called Humate. Humate, simply put, is organic carbon matter that activates and attracts microbes, my interpretation and simplified of course. Microbes are essentially the basics of life. This report was prepared by Randy Mosley, Mosley and Mosley, Inc. and explains certain controlled test they did with oil and salt contaminated samples. To obtain the Menefee Humate mentioned in this report please refer to This Link. If the PDF below is not working you can get it here:

The report is essentially saying that 1% mixture of humate in your oil or salt contaminated soils will speed the remediation process by up to fifty percent (50%) by attracting and activating nearby microbes, which eat the contamination and put out amino acids, fatty acids and sugars. It is much more complicated than this on a microbiological scale, but it can essentially be broken down to the a fore mentioned simple summary. This is astounding to me.

If my interpretation is wrong please let me know and add your comment below. Feel free to add whatever comment you like. I am simply sharing a tid bit of information I found while looking for something to help with this horrible disaster still unfolding, 86 days later, in the gulf. This will not stop the leak but I believe it is a organic, sustainable source that could very well be a very inexpensive way to help restore the affected states.
